Commander (Dr) Kamal-Deen Ali
Commander (Dr) Kamal-Deen Ali is the Director of Research at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College with additional responsibility as the Legal Director of the Ghana Navy. He is also the Executive Director of the Centre for Maritime Law and Security Africa, a Fellow of the Africa Security Dialogue and Research Network, and an Associate of the Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy, United Kingdom. He an Adjunct Lecturer at Law Faculty and other Department of the University of Ghana and has since 2005 been extensively involved in law of sea and maritime security capacity building and policy shaping in the Gulf of Guinea and in Africa at large.
Dr Kamal-Deen holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wollongong, Australia, based on his research at ANCORS. He also has Masters Degrees in International Maritime Law and International Relations. He has previously served in various appointments in the Ghana Armed Forces including deployments on peacekeeping missions to Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2003 and 2007 respectively. He has published significantly and has an upcoming book “Maritime Security Corporation in the Gulf of Guinea: Prospects and Challenges” (Brill/Martinus: Netherlands 2015).
