Andrew Forbes spent over 30 years in the Australian Department of Defence, the last 11 years of which were as the Deputy Director (Research) in the Sea Power Centre – Australia. He is an Honorary Senior Fellow at ANCORS, a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Security and Development at Dalhousie University; and an Associate of the Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy. He is the Australian representative on the CSCAP study group on maritime security.
Andrew holds Master’s degrees in defence studies, maritime policy and public administration. He has edited 19 books on naval and maritime issues and is the former editor of the Journal of the Australian Naval Institute and the Australian Journal of Maritime and Ocean Affairs.
His current research focus is on maritime economics, specifically seaborne trade and associated industries, maritime and energy security issues, and naval shipbuilding; naval and maritime strategy; and defence policy.
